About Lamont Selby

Lamont Selby (Strong Vincent Class of '93) co-founded LSelb Sports with his best friend and basketball teammate, James Boyd, an IT whiz. From 2006, the pair attempted numerous ways to make a difference for Erie youth.

Tragically, James was killed by a drunk driver on Dec. 1, 2021. In his memory, LSelb Sports and Lamont have continued outreach, with plans to expand in the future.

Lamont's passion for helping youth is best described in his own words: “I will try to help every kid reach their ultimate, what they want to be in life. I know I can’t reach every kid, but every kid that comes to me broken will be fixed. I want to save everybody.”

Over the years, Lamont became increasingly troubled by the scarcity of resources available to Erie youth. Today, he recognizes many of the same issues still prevalent in the city as when he was growing up, especially gun violence. Lamont believes that sports can be an avenue to address problems such problems.

Early on, Lamont was involved in coaching youth football, finding that many of his players were from struggling single-parent households. He has driven players to games and has mentored them at every opportunity.

Lamont has earned certifications with AFPA, the American Fitness Professionals and Associates, and NFPT, the National Federation of Professional Trainers. In 2002, he graduated from Great Lakes Institute of Technology as a Medical Assistant. He has developed his own personal fitness training regimens and has coached hundreds of student athletes and others.
